History:

In 1905 Kelowna became a city with a population of 600 people and the name came from the Sylix term “Kim-ach-touch” meaning brown bear, over time this became Kelowna which was easier to pronounce and has the meaning of grizzly bear (Tourism Kelowna, 2020d).

Over the past year, Tourism Kelowna has adopted a new technology for collecting visitation numbers, the method used allowed for quicker reporting and to view monthly statistics.  The 2020 collection of data will allow them to compare year-over-year visitation numbers to note specific trends and opportunities (Tourism Kelowna, 2020f).
